Nile was born to Mars in 1987, and both whales are seen on Stellwagen Bank as of this sculpture’s creation.

She is easily recognized by the left fluke marking that bears resemblance to the longest river in Africa, measured at 4,132 miles long but only averaging 26-36’ deep.

In contrast there is great depth to the history of this cetacean counterpart; between 2014-2019 I witnessed this whale bubble net feed with voracious kin, breach in skies of clear blue and cemetery grey, flipperslap with her reoccurring friend Pitcher, and raise a 2014 calf named Sprinkles.
