Oceana
The humpback whale is amongst the most inventive of predators. The species has learned to make an artillery from the medium of their habitat, repurposing their very breath as a “hydrokinetic tool”. By exhaling gaseous blooms of CO2 whilst encircling prey in coordinated attacks, they procure a bubble curtain to compact fish into schools at the ocean’s surface.
A single hunter from an association of twelve whales may be tasked with this netting technique, while its peers bellow high frequency shrieks to further confuse their quarry. Humpback whales like Aquarius have also been observed creating toroidal bubbles, or underwater vortices, for reasons unknown.
