Breccia is a sculptural depiction of a Humpback whale catalogued by Pacific Whale Foundation as PWF-NP_4711. Encountered just once in Ma’alaea Harbour on January 10th of 1988, no future encounters have been photographed.

New and old rake scars photographed at the time suggest this creature had multiple encounters with killer whales. A mortal confrontation between the species may be reason for no further documentation.

The elegant scarification upon the creature’s flukes bears resemblance to clastic rock. I find that the physical scale and geometric attributes of Humpback whales are akin to geological features, but the intricacies of tail patterns contrast with the overall broadness of the animal’s form.
