This Humpback whale of the Aleutian Islands is anointed by killer whales. Known as Flame, or 570086 in the SPLASH Catalogue, this whale has migrated south to the shallow breeding habitat of the ‘Au’au Channel since 2005.
Fluke patterns undergo dramatic change when the hunters of rorquals impart their toothed calligraphy. This tail unfurls a hidden history of cetacean cultures; dramas are fought with neighboring clans during borderless voyages across blue frontiers.
