Flame is a 1:1 life size replica of the humpback whale known to Juneau for her emblematic fluke pattern and her increasing number of calves.

This sculpture is the first composite sculpture made from multiple planks of clear grain, kiln dried red cedar, sourced locally from southeast Alaska.

The outdoor installation is positioned in Statter Harbor of Auke Bay, at the staging area for all whale watch guests visiting the island.

This is the largest arts project to date for the artist and Tails of Stellwagen.

Created in partnership with NOAA Fisheries and the City and Borough of Juneau. Workshop facilities were generously donated by the University of Alaska Southeast Tech Center.
